Its that time of year again, we’re entering the next season of fashion trends, so we’ve made a round up of some of the items touted as the latest hot thing – and whether they will work with tummy tuck jeans, trademark of super- brand Not Your Daughters Jeans.  Its one thing for Vogue (1) to suggest the trench (coat) should go with something short or draped – just believe us when we tell you, no-one here is going to be floating round in anything short anytime soon! Instead, here is our team’s playful guide to what can be a hot, hot fashion look for Spring 2010 for teaming with tummy tuck jeans, for plus size fashion and for the army of real women out there – the curvy girls! We hope by reading this we show you a pick of the fashion trends tipped to spill from the runways  but give you ideas for sexier, more wearable, outfits that look good on curvy women. By the way, none of our suggestions are sponsored or paid for by the companies featured – we just like the look of this stuff!!

First up is that trench – along with most of the Western world it seems, the Vogue magazine team are touting it as one of their ten must haves… but as mentioned, suggest teaming it with something short, or draped. The way round this could be to go for a jersey fabric sweater. Why? Well, we’re taking a tip from fashion style guru for real women Gok Wan on this one. He’s already a superstar in the UK due to his TV shows, which champion real life feel good dressing for women who ARE NOT fashionista thin. Our hero Gok suggests jersey is a winner because it has a way of draping down the body without clinging to all the rounder bits in a bad way (2).

We loved the trench coat above, available in sizes 14-28 (www.elegantplus.com/…/plus-size-outerwear.htm) -

and keep reading on to see why we loved this ruffled jersey top (http://www.yoursclothing.co.uk)/P/Plus_Size_Fuller_Figure_Jade_Jersey_Chiffon_Frill_Top-%285042%29.aspx). Moreover, we think the trench coat will work with the TT jeans, we suggest you complete the look with some beautifully cut jersey and smart boots.

Next up, this year’s  fashion trends are going to be workable wearing the NYDJ brand in white – yes, white is the new black again and is all over the runways this spring with contributions by Ralph Laurent, Chanel, Ferragamo, Lagerfeld, Prada, Yves Saint Laurent and more. You could work in the ‘Nail Head’ style in white, or use a wide leg in white, teamed with ballet pumps or again, our vote goes to Gok’s staple of  smart and  sexy ‘riding’ boots. Look long and hard for a pair that truly work for you – we do not recommend the internet on this one as boots are weird little things, they do look very different on different women. Hit the mall sales instead, with an honest friend in tow.

As for accessories, Harper’s Bazaar (3)  have been championing drawstring bags – we’ve seen these dotted around the high street for some time, even the humble H&M team have come up with a cracking camel drawstring style – check it out for a mere £10 (that’s around $15). According to Harper’s Bazaar, another fashion trend this spring is apparently- wait for it – ruffles and frills. Hence our joy at the jade jersey top above – jersey.. .  If you’re not comfortable with idea of big ruffles and frills, you could  divert this trend onto the accessory front – fashion jewelry with ruffles, funky  handbags with ruffles…. here’s one we found at http://www.thisnext.com/:

In fact we didn’t have to look far – there are plenty of ruffled bags around right now, catching the wave. On a budget, try the internet or Ebay – if you live in London, UK, we reccomend the Camden markets for handbags at great prices and elsewhere, check out your local equivalent – markets can be amazing value for really good handbags. Vegan or vegetarian consumers will love those markets too – often, to keep costs down, the bags are made in the latest styles  but using non-leather materials – win-win. A higher end product we also like is the Tabitha Bag – its an elegant take on ruffles, and the money goes to an amazing children’s charity. Click on the Helping Handbags link on the left hand side on our homepage. (Again,  no, we don’t have any association with the company, we think they’re just doing a mighty fine job).  Ruffles and frills could easily work with fashion jewellry, we loved this Fair Trade silk frilly brooch from  http://www.thefairtradefaerie.co.uk/

So that’s our take on three key trends this season – the trench coat, white and ruffles and frills and how to wear them with tummy tuck jeans as a staple by choosing the right tops, colours and accessorising on trend.  Hopefully, you can find a way to wear them with our handy hints which moves them away from the still super-waif-thin catwalk look and onto more average women’s shapes. Its amazing, most of the models we’ve seen in our exploration for this spring were still the very thin shapes we don’t remember being for a long long time. Check back with us for more of our ongoing series on fashion trends for this year,  coming soon:  Early Fashion Trends 2010 Part 2.
